IRS Delays Due Dates for ACA Forms

The IRS has delayed the due-dates for required ACA reports and forms. Some employers may view this as a signal to relax their compliance efforts, but the changes to the reporting deadlines will likely just allow some very slight breathing room.
Insurance providers and applicable large employers are now required to furnish 1095-B and 1095-C forms to applicable individuals by March 31, 2016 (previous deadline was February 1).
The deadlines for filing 1094 and 1095 forms with the IRS have been extended to:
- May 31, 2016 (hard copy filing)
- June 30, 2016 (electronic filing)
No requests for extensions need to be made; these are automatically granted. In fact, there are no extensions permitted for this year beyond the automatic extensions.
The deadline for individuals filing their 2015 income tax returns have not been delayed (the deadline is still April 15, 2016).
While the new deadlines do provide a bit more time, employers should steer clear of putting their processes on hold.
